Lee Swanson

Despite growing up on an Oregon dairy farm, Lee Swanson has enjoyed a lifetime interest in medieval history. Living in both Germany and England for extended periods of his life, he has traveled extensively, seeking out-of-the-way places with unfamiliar stories to tell. Among his favorite places are the cities and towns that serve as some of the settings for his historical novels, such as Lubeck in Germany, Bruges in Belgium, and London.

Holding a Master’s Degree in European History from the University of North Florida, Lee’s thesis centered on the Hansa, a confederation of merchants from primarily northern German cities, that flourished in the 12th through 17th centuries. Many of the colorful characters who populate his historical fiction series No Man is Her Master are drawn from the lives of these resolute men who traveled the waterways of Europe in search of profit and prestige.

Lee’s work includes historical novels No Man’s Chattel and Her Perilous Game, as well as a soon-to-be published crime fiction novel, The Calling of Alex Tate.

After lengthy careers as a soldier and then an educator, Lee now spends his time as a bed and breakfast owner in coastal Maine with his beloved wife Karine and their dog, Banjo.
